I can't remember how I ended up listening to this masterpiece by Arvo Pärt, - Estonian composer, - recorded in 1977, released on vinyl in 1984.
"Scored for two violins, string orchestra, and prepared piano.", it embodies musically the tragedy itself, through a minimal pattern of classical partiture: it is disarming, haunting and utterly poignant. Cyclic and growing. Like a blood stain turning into a ruby lake. And you, going down deep into this symphonic de prufundis. Tearing apart.
Four movements, for states of petrification. I can't think of anything more beautiful in this moment in Music. For sure, it will wipe out that idiot smile off your face, and elevate your soul.

Also, do not miss this excellent live version.
