No more than 20/25 people for three amazing underground bands playing live in a small venue: that's what happens in Rome, especially if there are Wire to play a show the same night somewherelse in town, and the promotion is closed to zero. And that's a pity, i'm sorry both for these talented unknowns (can You imagine how hard is to prepare for a show? going on tour, moving the backline, etc?) - either for the snobbish attitude of the so called italian indie audience that wasn't there.. so it turned to be a sort of suicidal gig dedicated to a small crowd of friends, - and that might even be good, - but You know, that's not exactly the point of making live music.
It's Tocqueville to go on stage first, - imagine a band of four, sort of sensitive folk Motorpsycho meeting Tapes'n Tapes, with some of Dinosaur Jr fuzzy corrosive punk rock rush. The first track is a long quiet swell that mounts an extraordinary feeling, - all of us are soon enraptured into the melancolique drepressed sung of Edoardo: go on their myspace, - and listen to Back on Planet Earth, - and tell me if You can say You felt nothing moving in your stomach: it's folk psychedelic Music, - with a tragic sensation of inhibition. - And now tell me You're not sorry for them for the last night. - They kick the ass!!!!!! It's only because there is not a fancy record label pushing their image through the media, - THAT'S WHY we were no more than 20/25 people. THAT SHIT. - I'm sorry dear Tocqueville, - You deserve more credit from this world of indifference. - SO, dear komareaders, go on their MYSPACE PAGE, and post this comment: I AM SO SORRY I WASN'T THERE LAST NIGHT. - Some of us were dancing, and we were happy. - And i am sorry that my digital camera has got that crappy audio device.

Then, Trees of Mint. - Aka Francesco Serra, helped by a drummer (i can't say if he was the one of Plasma Expander, - i didn't ask): i can say that notwistanding i did appreciate His debute release on Here I Stay rec last year,  i must say that the release doesn't reflect as it should Serra's amazing fingerpicking style on His fender jaguar, - sincerely talented. - He knows how to use the Boss loop station, and create multilayered soft arpeggio, - several bright lines of poetry, enriched by His warm vocals, - always with eyes closed, - sort of young Robin Proper Sheppard. Excellent on After All (watch my video) and the pop hit for losers Today Polaroid. Yes, Trees of Mint were worthy more than 20/25 persons, too.

Three piece band La Calle Mojada found Their place sat between early Slowdive and The Meeting Places. It was around 1 am when They started playing (yes, 1 hour past midnight, - that happens in italy when there are  not more than 20/25 persons and You keep on waiting for more to come). Three new songs, only two from debut EP So Far From Winter to Fall (Raise rec, 'o9) - the self titled track, and the stargazing Secret Bliss. The second new track performed, Thin Place, was exactly the missing song They needed previously to speed up their live set and make people dance a little bit, - and, if fixed some vocal perplexity, They might fall some tears to Robin Guhtrie too. They told me that the above mentioned new track is going to be featured on a forthcoming sampler release by Raise rec within summer. Let's wait and see.
And yes, La Calle Mojada were worthy more than 20 souls, too (those 5 of before went home, - it was nearly 2 am).

TRADUZIONE IN ITALIANO:
