Nell'ultima versione del famoso Manuale diagnostico e statistico dei disturbi mentali della Società americana di psichiatria, si afferma che un lutto che dura per più di sei giorni inizia a essere patologico.
O il gruppo di analisti che ha scritto quel libro è composto da avidi e senza cuore, o noi abbiamo problemi serissimi con i distacchi. A parte le cose veramente serie, già dopo che passa qualche mese che non vediamo dal vivo i Modotti, sperimentiamo forme di nostalgia durissime e tormentate.
Fortunatamente ora è uscito Come Ti Senti, e tutte le nostre personalità avranno modo di assistere presto ad uno dei loro proverbiali e intensissimi show anche a Roma.
Il nuovo EP conta quattro pezzi, come il primissimo Le Sense Du Combat (2010), ma segue inevitabilmente più il percorso tracciato con il precedente Migranti, anche se, nell'insieme, sembra meno diretto e molto più complesso.
Il terzetto esce da un periodo personale difficile, ma sembra avere le idee chiare e talmente tanti spunti per completare presto anche un doppio.
Oltre ai più o meno velati omaggi letterari ai grandiosi Carver e Canetti (Cattedrali, Autodafè?), anche qui, i Modotti si candidano non solo ad essere il gruppo (in) italiano più accreditato a stare su Dischord, ma anche uno dei migliori in assoluto tra quelli che portano avanti il discorso di Unwound, Fugazi, Monorchid e i nostri Red Worms' Farm.
Pur mantenendo sempre alta la tensione e la qualità compositiva, i pezzi si sviluppano spesso anche tramite frequenti e inaspettate pause.
Come se fossimo in un film di Jarmusch, però, la cosa sembra più come la conseguenza di chi sa di poterti sorprendere da un momento all'altro, che non la titubanza di chi non sa come bene continuare. A proposito del regista del bellissimo Solo gli amanti sopravvivono (vedete su youtube almeno l'omaggio al VOX e Twin reverb) pensiamo che non sarebbe del tutto fuori luogo, prima o poi, vedere i Modotti al posto dei White Hills in una delle prossime scene dei suoi film.
Nella colonna sonora di Broken Flowers ci starebbero perfettamente.
Magari diciamo cosí perché siamo ancora troppo emozionati da Jack Ometti, uno dei più bei omaggi al suono trance acustico di John Fahey. O forse è tempo di rivedere Dead Man, oppure no: i distacchi prolungati ci fanno davvero male.

Latest Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, published by the American Psychiatric Association, says that mournings which last more than six days tend to be pathological.
Perhaps psychiatrists in this book are a bit heartless, else, it's just us, we have very serious problems with separations. No jokes, it's just a few months since the last time we saw Modotti live, and we already experience forms of harsh and tormented nostalgia.
Luckly now, they have a new EP out, Come Ti Senti ('how do you feel?', translated), and all of our personalitiies will be able to see soon one of their proverbial and intense live shows in Rome.
Their new record counts four tracks, like their debut release Le Sense Du Combat (2010), yet, it naturally follows the path they maked with their former Migranti, although, as a unit, it seems less direct and much more complex than that.
The trio comes out from some troubled times, yet, they have ideas clear, and a bunch of cues to write even a double LP.
In addition to the more or less literary tributes to our beloved Carver and Canetti (Cattedrali, Autodafè?), even here, Modotti are applying not only to be the (in) Italian band more suitable for Dischord, but, maybe the best one taking seriously what's left by Unwound, Fugazi, Monorchid and our national Red Worms' Farm.
While still maintaining the high voltage and compositional quality, their songs often develop also through frequent and unexpected breaks.
As if we were in a Jarmusch movie, but, the thing is that it is like the consquence of being able to surprise whenever you want. About Jarmusch, and his amazing Only Lovers Left Alive, - watch the tribute to VOX e Twin reverb), Modotti would perfectly fit with it, instead of White Hills. As for Broken Flowers' OST.
Maybe, we say so because we feel so excited by their Jack Ometti, one of most beautiful tributes to John Fahey's acoustic trance. Or maybe it's time to watch again Dead Man, or maybe not: prolonged separations really hurt bad.
