We don't follow Alberto Angela's Twitter, but, we kind of remember that Rome's Colosseum was built where once there was an an artificial lake. At Piazza del Popolo, it used to be poplars (populus in Latin), and in Via Affogalasino (which means in Italian "the street where one drowns the donkey") they used to kill Christians.
After attending Delta Sleep's latest show in Rome at Dal Verme, we are sure that under their van someone has buried not only the inventor of the protractor, but also that one of roman numbers, and Whiplash's drum teacher.
Last November 3rd, during their gig, they awaken the patron of math precision, and also Fury's one.
It was ages we did not face such a devastating live show, raging and - at the same time - compact and engaging.
Except done for Spy Dolphin, buzzing in the internet since a while, we attended to their gig without even having listened to their new record, Twin Galaxies.
Besides now saying that we're deeply into these new songs, we realize how the album's title perfectly matches the will of colliding the constellations of arithmetic with melodic and emotional leaps.
At the end of the show (they were supported by Giona, Bastian and Inesatto) we asked to their amazing drummer Blake Mostyn if he knew of Pele or Lewis, two bands we mentioned last time we reviewed Management. He answered that Delta Sleep has big respect for American Football. May the Kinsella brothers forgive us, and so do Polyvinyl records, but the potential of this Band are even greater.
In addition to keeping alive the poignant melodic vein of the beloved Crash of Rhinos, Delta Sleep are able to break up and rearrange in geometric as well as unknown shapes, thousands of ideas and surprising ideas.
The beautiful and versatile voice in Devin Yuceil, in this way, lead them to some kind of solutions, unreachable for dozens of other bands out there.
There's only a doubt, what's best, if Twin Galaxies or Management.
The project, both in terms of composition and vibe, maintains consistency and an unquestionable trademark.
If the bass player continues to wear Valerian Swing t-shirt, under the van, there will be always room for us too.

Non seguiamo Alberto Angela su Twitter, ma ci sembra di ricordare che a Roma il Colosseo sia stato costruito dove prima sorgeva un piccolo lago artificiale. A Piazza del Popolo, invece, c'era una foresta di pioppi (populi, in latino) e a via Affogalasino venivano fatti annegare molti cristiani.
Dopo aver visto i Delta Sleep al Dal Verme, siamo sicuri che sotto al furgone di quel gruppo devono aver seppellito l'inventore del goniometro, quello dei numeri romani e pure il maestro di batteria di Whiplash.
Lo scorso 3 novembre, nel corso dell'esibizione del gruppo inglese nella capitale, quantomeno si deve essere risvegliato il patrono della precisione matematica e quello di Furia Cavallo Del West.
Erano mesi che non assistevamo ad un concerto cosí incredibilmente devastante, iracondo e al tempo stesso millimetricamente compatto e coinvolgente.
A parte Spy Dolphin, che gira già da un pò in rete, siamo andati a vedere i quattro del tutto all'oscuro di come avessero voluto impostare questo secondo lavoro, Twin Galaxies.
Oltre ad ammettere che ora ne siamo ben travolti, riconosciamo che il nome del disco rispecchia bene la volontà di far combaciare le costellazioni dell'aritmetica a quelle degli slanci melodici ed emozionali.
A fine concerto (i Delta Sleep hanno suonato in una serata con Giona, Bastian e Inesatto) abbiamo chiesto al mostruoso batterista Blake Mostyn se per caso conoscesse Pele o Lewis, gruppi a cui li paragonammo anche in sede della recensione a Management. Lui più che altro ammetteva il grande rispetto di tutta la sua banda per gli American Football. Non ce ne vogliano i fratelli Kinsella e tutta la Polyvinyl records, ma le potenzialità di questo gruppo sono ancora maggiori.
Oltre a tenere in vita la struggente vena melodica dei compianti Crash of Rhinos, i Delta Sleep sono in grado di spezzettare e riordinare in forme geometriche sconosciute, migliaia di spunti e trovate sorprendenti.
La splendida e versatile voce di Devin Yuceil, in questo senso, consente loro soluzioni inarrivabili per decine di altre band.
Il dubbio se è meglio Twin Galaxies o Management, magari, rimane.
Il progetto, sia a livello compositivo che umorale, mantiene una coerenza e una riconoscibilità indiscutibile.
Se il bassista continua a indossare la maglietta dei Valerian Swing, sotto a quel furgone, ci faremo sempre posto anche noi.
