Dopo aver recensito il loro primo album e dopo aver avuto il piacere di aiutarli anche nel loro primo concerto romano – in cui purtroppo c'erano più strumenti, amplificatori e distorsioni sul palco che spettatori sotto – i There Will Be Blood continuano a stupirmi con One to Nothing – Diddley EP.
Loro ammettono da subito che "non hanno inventato il diddley bow, cosí come non lo hanno inventato i centinaia di blues man che lo hanno suonato prima di loro. Ne hanno solo costruito uno. E lo hanno suonato."
Devo ammettere cazzo che lo hanno fatto bene.
Il vinile in questione ci regala subito Timmy and the Bear; un'infernale danza voodoo intorno al fuoco a evocare tutti i grandi spiriti della musica nera. Catch the Train ci scaraventa su un fumoso e sudato vagone di un treno a vapore che marcia sopra gli arrugginiti binari del caldo delta blues; un viaggio che ti stacca la pelle come quelle frustate a chi non aveva il diritto di sentirsi libero.
Il lato B si divide diametralmente tra Kangaroo e Black Smith. La prima traccia è uno strumentale impregnato d'oppio; lento e stritolante come quelle trappole mentali dalle quali più provi a liberarti più si stringe la presa. La seconda al contrario ha un ritmo cosí serrato e violentemente grezzo da staccarti la testa al primo ascolto; i There Will Be Blood con questo pezzo continuano a spargere sangue sul loro cammino.
Una band che ha stile.

After reviewing their first album and having had the pleasure to also help them in their first concert in Rome - where, unfortunately, there were more instruments, amps and fuzz pedals on stage than people for audience - There Will Be Blood continue to amaze me with ne to Nothing – Diddley EP.
They now admit that "we did not invent the diddley bow, as neithern hundreds of blues man who played it before of us did it. We have only built one. And we play it." I have to admit that they do it fucking well.
This vinyl gives us immediately Timmy and the Bear; hellish voodoo dance around the fire to evoke all the great minds of black music. Catch the Train throws us in a smoky and sweaty wagon of a steam train running along the rusty rails of the hot delta blues, a journey which tears up the skin like those lashes to those who were denied the right to be free. The B-side is diametrically divided between Kangaroo and Black Smith. The first track is an instrumental impregnated with opium, slow and crushing, such as some mental mind tricks from which more you try to get out of, more the grip gets tight. The second, on the other hand, has got a rhythm so concise and violently crude to take the head at first listen; There Will Be Blood, with this piece, continue to shed blood in their path. A band with style.
