A distanza di circa sette mesi eccomi di nuovo a scrivere del quartetto belga che dopo l'omonimo album di debutto ci propone qui un EP vinilico con sei tracce nuove di zecca per la francese Kizmiaz Records. Dopo aver consumato i solchi del suddetto Lp e dopo aver messo lo zampino nel loro primo tour italiano, appena ho letto di questa nuova uscita non ho perso l'occasione di far mia anche questa loro nuova fatica.
Basta far iniziare a girare il primo lato che ho subito la netta sensazione di aver fatto bene.
I Thee Marvin Gays infatti con It's easier to be a dumb sveglierebbero pure i morti. Un pezzo tirato come il volto di chi per tirare avanti passa tutta la notte insonne. Noto con piacere che, al contrario di come accadde spesso a molti gruppi dopo l'album d'esordio, loro hanno ancora tanto da dire e da suonare. Con Blackout downtown i Thee Marvin Gays fanno del garage moderno quello che più mi piace... producono la rivoluzione sonora senza rivoluzionare un cazzo; sembrerà strano ma in tempi di esami di maturità a volte è proprio questo il compito più difficile da svolgere. Il lato a si chiude con No one e si capisce bene che a volte a sentirsi il primo della classe si può anche imparare alla perfezione la teoria; ma in pratica si perde l'essenza di sudarsi le cose dal basso. Dove a volte è tutto più vero, vissuto e se volete faticoso.
Girato lato si cambia anche atmosfera che con Now that you are naked si fa subito cupa, scarnificante come la voce di Lulu; che cosí gelida in un solo attimo ti leva anche le mutande. Nonostante l'infernale temperatura esterna si prova comunque quel malinconico brivido dietro la schiena che solo chi si è messo veramente a nudo sa cosa vuol dire. Ma per fortuna certi attimi sono solo Vaccant time e con questa traccia si mette in soffitta qualsiasi amletico dubbio e si inizia a ballare. Si perché i Thee Marvin Gays ti fanno muovere le chiappe con il loro r'n'r' distorto; questo non mi sembra assolutamente poco. Infine c'è Iron maiden; per chi ha già dato tutto consiglio una bella doccia gelata, per chi come me non si accontenta mai, ecco a voi una traccia indelebile per seguire il cammino di una band che sembra non avere nessuna voglia di perdersi in chiacchiere.

About seven months, and I'm here writing again about this Belgian four piece, which, after their s/t debut record, is now ready for a vinyl EP, out for french Kizmiaz Records. After consuming the grooves of the above mentioned LP, and after being directly involved in setting their recent tour here in Italy, as I known of this new release, I did not lose a moment and I grabbed it.
And the first side is already itself enough to say I'm satisfied.
Thee Marvin Gays, I'm sure, with It's easier to be a dumb can wake the dead. A tough track as the tough face of someone who spends each night of his life sleepless for a living. It's delightful how, contrary to what often happens to many groups after the debut album, they still have much to say and play. With Blackout downtown, Thee Marvin Gays play that kind of modern garage Music I like the most.. they make a sound revolution with nothing at all in the end; it may sound odd, but in times of final exams, sometimes, that's the most difficult task to perform.
The first side ends with No one, and it is clear sometimes when you feel you are the best at school, you can also learn to perfection the theory. But in practice we lose the essence of the hard work to get things from starting at the bottom. Where sometimes it's all true, experienced, and if you like, hard.
On the B side, Now that you are naked introduce us to a new gloomer ambient, wrenching as Lulu's voice; and so cold that in a moment takes you away the underwear. Despite the hellish temperatures outside, it feels that melancholy thrill behind the back, that only those who have really put bare know what it means. Luckly, these moments are merely Vaccant time, and with this track you have no more doubt, it's time to dance. Yeah, because Thee Marvin Gays' distorted r'n'r' moves your ass in a second; and that's something. Last but not least, there's Iron Maiden; for those who have given everything I only suggest a nice cold shower, for those like me who are never satisfied, here's an indelible mark in order to follow the path of a band that seems to have no desire to get lost in conversation.
