Werner is a three piece band from Pistoia's, Tuscany, Italy, which features Ka Mate Ka Ora's singer/guitarist Stefano Venturini, here, in this new sound journey, accompanied by two girls, at piano, cello and backing vocals.
Released last April, Oil tries to be water, fuzz buzz and shoegazing baths are just far echoes here: electricity steps aside to give mainly room to a mellow acoustic folk dream with accompaniment of classic form; drumless, blurred, evocative and whispered under candles lights, grey shaded and faint, trembling among mournful and intimate.
The whole record is tinged with fragility and accents of misery, it goes slow and yawning, like if you could reach happyness only through that kind of sufferance which makes you write brilliant songs.
The piano tribute to Satie, - Erik, is the track calling back a leit motif of Gymnopédies, - is a sort of match point between Pink Floyd's Atom Earth Mother and early Mojave 3. Also, The dawning, it is velvet magic on minimal songrwiting. Piece Russian sky probably tops the whole record, imo: highly inspiring, that kind of depressive poetry of a melody that may bring you to tears if in the right mood. The final track His beautiful rooster abruptly the piano after a touching vocal intro followed by tempestuous tones of musical crescendo: later, a hidden finale comes out, to offer a more gentle exit to all this bitterness.
Last but not least, a note for collectors: a first deluxe edition of Oil tries to be water will feature limited prints by Cuore di Cane, illustrating each song title.

Pubblicato lo scorso fine aprile, Oil tries to be water, qui ronzii di fuzz e bagni shoegaze sono echi lontani: l'elettricità fa un passo indietro per dare principalmente spazio a un sogno mellifluo di folk acustico con accompagnamenti classici: senza batteria, ambienti offuscati, evocativi, sussurrati sotto le luci di candele, tremule tra toni grigi tra l'esser tristi e in intimità.
L'intero disco è tinto con fragilità e accenti di miseria, scorre lento sbadigliando, come se si potesse raggiungere la felicità solo con quel tipo di sofferenza che ti rende capace di scrivere cose brillanti.
Il tributo di pianoforte a Satie, - Erik, è la traccia che richiama un leit motif di Gymnopédies, - è una sorta di punto segnato tra l'Atom Earth Mother dei Pink Floyd e i primi Mojave 3. Anche, The dawning veste di quel velluto magico dello scrivere canzoni in minimale. Il pezzo Russian sky probabilmente è - a mio avviso - l'apice di questo disco: altamente ispirato, quel genere di poesia depressa di una melodia che potrebbe portarVi alle lacrime, se già nell'umore giusto.
