Oh dear, this is more than a concept album, this is the life of someone. Of three, actually.
From Manchester, UK, years to complete it, third record for the original three piece making the core of Amplifier: the Octopus is that kind of album that puts me in an uneasy position, - too hard to come out with a proper review to give justice to the whole ambitious work there's behind.
First of all it is visually like something majestic, primitive and divine in its huge sound production and richness/complexity of arrangements as well. And it is also a book, "a special edition, limited to 500 copies and dedicated by hand by the band, will be available as a 70-page CD book detailing The Octopus".
After the anxious overture of the first ambient track The Runner, - a pre-mortem ride through the light, - it is kind of surprise when you understand they actually follow the cult of The Dark Side of the Moon (White Horses At Sea // Utopian Daydream, Oscar Night // Embryo) before The Octopus' one.
Actually this album is feeded with multi-suites tracks sharing a chemistry of progressive rock (Minion's Song, Golden Ratio), slow metal (Interglacial Spell), atmospheric hardcore and grunge (The Wave, Interstellar), psychedelic/doom metal (The Octopus, Fall Of The Empire), - a mysticism of downtuned distortions, heavy percussions / acrobatic drums, and other abstract sounds to sedate the senses once reached the light, emphasized by Sel's vocals.
Fans of Pink Floyd, This Will Destroy You, Tool, Soundgarden, Ufomammut, King Crimson, - won't be disappointed for sure, this is gold for the niche cult. And it's fireworks at the end of the final track Forever And More. Actually it is from the start to the end.
Last but not least, the record comes in two format, gatefold wallet and digipack.

Dal Regno Unito, Manchester, anni per completare le registrazioni, terzo disco per i tre che compongono il cuore degli Amplifier: the Octopus è quella sorta di disco incubo per i recensori, perchè non se ne usciranno mai con una degna recensione per render giustizia al sangue che c'è dietro a queste due ore di ambizioni.
Prima di tutto è visualmente come qualcosa di magistrale, primitivo e divino nella sua immensa produzione dei suoni, nonchè ricchezza di arrangiamenti.
