I do not exactly why, - I'll try to explain my point of view, - btw, these six free-form tracks by the italian spastic-jazz collective Jealousy Party bring my mind to two italian cartoon animators, fashionable in 70s downhere, that is Bruno Bozzetto and Osvaldo Cavandoli: I remember when I was a kid, and it happened I spent my time watching their cartoons on tv, - actually theirs are cartoons, - but not in a Tom & Jerry-ish way of being a cartoon: their stories were funny to me, but somehow even bizzarre, I mean, Cavandoli's The Line didn't actually speak, it was more a kind of gibberish, - and Bozzetto's Signor Rossi jazz-esque ambients were something musically new and different to my ears as kid.
So it is with Jealousy Party's abstract approach to the Music, plus, actually Mat Pogo in Play On says (in italian) "it seems to me to be an animated cartoon, yet I'm not even good for a laugh": a buzzing dadaist jazz geometry continuously changing shape and colours, - where (male) vocals are like the translated phrasing of broken gabbles and circus eccentricity, a theatrical overplay in english and italian, more dots and commas than words in their grammar - all framed into strangled sax screeches, trombone, percussions and more analogic cut-up chaos.
Based in Florence, Italy, - 10 years of activity and records (cassette tapes included!), - as You already read from the album's title, Live At Hold'em Roma 2009, it is successfully live recorded in Rome, - a two footed dive into avant-garde jazz, mad yet under control, - if You are fan of this wave, You should add this piece to Your collection.

Non so esattamente perchè, ma quasi, e tenterò di spiegarmi, - ma queste sei tracce di jazz spastico a forma libera, a firma del collettivo italiano Jealousy Party, mi riportano con la mente a due animatori di cartoon in voga nei 70 in Italia, ovvero Bruno Bozzetto e Osvaldo Cavandoli: mi ricordo che quando ero un ragazzino mi capitava spesso di guardare i loro cartoni animati in tv (ce li chiamavano filmetti allora), ed erano ok a tutti effetti dei cartoni, ma non alla maniera di un Tom & Jerry: sí, le storie in sè erano divertenti, ma allo stesso tempo bizzarre. Ad esempio, La Linea di Cavandoli non è che parlasse, più che altro borbottava per me in modo nervoso e incomprensibile, e gli ambienti jazz-eschi del Signor Rossi di Bozzetto, erano un'iniezione musicalmente nuova per le mie orecchie, un pò come quando ti siringano l'acqua calda nel padiglione per scioglierti il cerume.
E cosí più o meno è l'approccio astratto alla Musica dei Jealousy Party, nonchè, come dice il loro front-man Mat Pogo in Play On "me pare de essere un cartone animato, ma non faccio manco ridere": una geometria dadaista ronzante, in continuo cambiamento di forma e colore, - dove la voce di lui è come una traduzione di fraseggi rotti ed eccentricità circense, una teatralità obliqua in italiano e inglese, alla cui grammatica appartengono più virgole e punti che parole, - tutto incorniciato in stridori di sax strozzato, trombone, percussioni e cut-up di caos analogico.
Da Firenze, 10 anni di attività e tanti dischi (e cassette!) alle spalle, - come avrete già arguito dal nome del disco, è registrato dal vivo a Roma, - un tuffo a piedi uniti nel jazz d'avanguardia, folle ma sotto controllo, - insomma, se siete fan del genere, non potete che aggiungere questo pezzo alla Vostra collezione.
