Of Palahniuk-ish memory, Portland Souvenir is a side-project, two-piece, formed by Ignazio Nisticò of Camera 237 and Ermanno Valeriano aka I Am E., - two indie Bands from southern Italy underground (non)scene.
While I think the first two tracks of this EP are kind of too naive bedroom indie pop (a very strong italian accent for lyrics in english, acoustic guitar almost out of tune) and too poorly recorded to substain the suggested pathos of their writing (the enjoyable refrain singing the Sun is gonna shine is very catchy à la M83), - the latter better keep faith to this sort of fragile nature and quickly make clear their emotional patterns, now brought to a higher level of maturity: so, Unsolved is a slow-running lullaby, melancholic, two voices crossing over, reverbs, guitars and keyboard notes, and the following instrumental title-track, emphasized by long sound hyperbols of ebow, places Portland Souvenir stylistically close to some of Love & Rockets, - that kind of whispered and suggestive craft of katharsis.
Anyway, these are small doses, I would be curious to hear more pieces from a full-lenght record.

Di Palahniuk-esca memoria, Portland Souvenir è il side-project a due di Ignazio Nisticò dei Camera 237 ed Ermanno Valeriano aka I Am E., due realtà indie della (non) scena underground dal sud Italia.
Mentre credo che le prime due tracce di questo EP siano troppo una sorta di naive indiepop da cameretta (un forte accento italiano per testi in inglese, una chitarra acustica un pò scordata) nonchè registrate un pò malamente per sostenere il pathos della loro scrittura (il refrain che canta the Sun is gonna shine è molto coinvolgente à la M83), - le altre due meglio tengono fede a questa sorta di fragile natura, e non perdon tempo che già si forma chiaro il disegno emozionale delle stesse, ora tutto portato su un diverso piano di maturità: quindi Unsolved è una lullaby in corsa lente, malinconica, a due voci tra riverberi, chitarre e note di tastiera, e la succcessiva title-track, enfatizzata da lunghe iperbole di un ebow, piazzano stilisticamente i Portland Souvenir vicino ad alcune cose dei Love & Rockets, - in quell'arte sussurrata e suggestiva di saper creare un suono di catarsi.
Comunque sia, queste mi sembrano delle piccole dosi, sarei curioso di sentire più pezzi all'interno di uno disco lungo.
