Thrushes get to Their second release, three years after the lovable Sun Come Undone, one of my favorite records of last times, actually.
From Baltimore, Maryland, USA, - the coordinates of this new record are somehow on the same line of previous one: emotional noise/shoegaze pop, where feedback and distortions find the sweetness way through Anna Conner's melancholic voice, clear and mellow, while guitars and drums get on the wild side of buzzing and riding beautiful tracks such as Skywave (loaded with harmonious grace and rancid romanticism), Crystals (maybe the one with more shoegaze imaginery), Trees (You can't but sing along 'I'll make You cryyyy | oh-ohhhhh'), the album's title-track Night Falls, - musically, a young sort of reminiscent parallel of New Order and Jesus & Mary Chain, - celestial yet worldly and sober at the same time, lot of reverb efx, danceable tempos, lyrics about love and broken hearts, - often with explosive walls of sound like background fires to Conner's shoulders.
Doubtless fascinating, Night Falls has got a fine-tuned pop sensibility, and I'm sure I'll be playing this album again and again in next months; - my only remark is that I can see no promiment differencies with Their debut record, - they are equally beautiful on the balance, both sharing what You can recognize as Thrushes' distinctive sound, - anyway, I bet most of these songs are from Sun Come Undone period (i.e. Trees), - however, if Night Falls doesn't satisfy my hunger of new, it surely does with my spiritual one.

I Thrushes arrivano al Loro secondo lavoro, tre anni dopo l'amabilissimo Sun Come Undone, in verità uno dei miei dischi preferiti degli ultimi anni.
Da Baltimora, Maryland, USA, - le coordinate di questo nuovo disco sono in qualche modo le stesse del precedente: emozionale noise/shoegaze pop, dove feedback e distorsioni trovano la via per dolcezza attraverso il cantato malinconico di Anna Conner, voce chiara e melliflua, mentre chitarre e batteria giocano sul versante selvaggio ronzando e cavalcando belle tracce quali Skywave (carica di grazia e rancido romanticismo), Crystals (forse la canzone con più immaginario shoegaze), Trees (quasi impossibile resistere dal canticchiare 'I'll make You cryyyy | oh-ohhhhh'), - poi la traccia che dà titolo all'album, Night Falls, - musicalmente, una giovane sorta di parallelo reminiscente di New Order e Jesus & Mary Chain, - celestiali ma al contempo terreni e sobri, - molto riverbero, ritmi ballabili, e testi concentrati su Amore e Cuori Infranti, - spesso con wall of sound esplosivi che bruciano in lontananza alle spalle della Conner.
Senza dubbio affascinante, Night Falls ha una sensibilità pop ben calibrata, e sono sicuro che mi ritroverò ad ascoltare spesso questo album nei prossimi mesi; il mio unico appunto è che non ci trovo prominenti differenze con il precedente disco di debutto, - sono ugualmente belli sulla bilancia, - entrambi condividono quello che si affermava già prima come un Loro distintivo sound, e cmq sono pronto a scommettere che la maggior parte di queste canzoni sono state scritte nello stesso periodo di Sun Come Undone (i.e. Trees), - quindi se Night Falls non soddisfa la mia fame di nuovo, sicuramente mi rende satollo sul lato spirituale.
