Gli Sciflyer
sono un trio americano (Alameda) dedito a lungaggini psichedeliche
di chiara
influenza 90ies. Il primo cd li vede alle prese con uno space rock
dal sapore
vagamente revivalista (l'impiego di registratori a bobina vintage
in fase
di registrazione certamente non fa che alimentare la sensazione di
dejà
vu). Benché riletti attraverso una grammatica shoegazing, sembrano
essere i padri della musica spaziale degli anni 70 a ispirare i
momenti
migliori di questo cd (prova ne è la cover dei Pink
Floyd posta a chiusura del disco, Set Control for the
Heart of
the Sun), anche se la vena sperimentale che fu la forza del
genere è
in questa sede una tenue referenza. Ad ogni modo gli Sciflyer
impongono in maniera convincente il loro bagaglio di suggestioni
cosmiche,
cogliendo l'intuizione di una ibridazione che potrebbe risultare
stimolante
ai più. Per aficionados di Pink
Floyd, Swerdriver, Loop, Neu…
Suggerisco
di indossare le orecchie del dottor spock durante l'ascolto. Con
il mini
cd Melt gli Sciflyer
paiono cambiare rotta. Dissipatesi le tenebre del cosmo che
parevano avvolgerli,
i tre hanno deciso (forse stanchi di rimanere chiusi nelle loro
stanze a
ciucciarsi Asimov) di puntare il muso della Loro Enterprise verso
il sole.
I benefici raggi infuocati che filtravano dagli oblo' della
navicella hanno
ispirato al terzetto il potenziale hit "slowfire" (attacco di
marca Sundays e proseguimento powerpop) seguita da una
"studio
audience" di pari gradevolezza e gran finale con cover degli Husker
Du. Questo cd insieme all'esordio dei Malory
(potenzialmente
i nuovi Slowdive) potrebbe essere un tormentone pop
sotterraneo di
questa stagione. Ci vediamo in spiaggia, chi è che porta lo stereo
a rovinarsi con la sabbia stavolta?
____ Nota: Il produttore degli Sciflyer, Matt Piucci, è stato negli anni 80 uno dei membri dei Rain Parade, tra i principali esponenti del seminale Pasley Underground (scena neopsichedelica in seno alla new wave americana). Credo, consigliandoVi di riscoprire gli artisti che furono fautori di quell'epoca dorata del rock, di poter passare a miglior vita convinti di aver agito per il bene dell' umanità. Potete iniziare da "Days Of Wine And Roses" dei Dream Syndicate, recentemente ristampato e di facile reperibilità.

Sciflyer are an american trio (from Alameda), into a psychedelic trip of clear 90's influence. First cd sees Them involved in a space rock, with sort of some revival-ist recalls (use of vintage tape recorders surely help to create this sensation of dejà vu). Although Their Music can be read under shoegazing coordinates, it looks like it's 7o's space music fathers to inspire best episodes of this cd (evidence: Set Control for the Heart of the Sun, covering Pink Floyd) even if experimental vein, power of this genre, is here a faint reference. Anyway, Sciflyer impose with conving strenght Their knowledge of cosmics sensations, catching an intuition of a kind of ibrid thing abke to result stimulating to most. For fanatics of Pink Floyd, Swerdriver, Loop, Neu… I'd suggest to wear doc Spock's ears during listening. With mini-cd Melt, Sciflyer seem to change directions. Forgot cosmic darkness involving former cd, because our Three now decided (maybe tired of being closed inside their room doping with Asimov) to point muzzle of Their Enterprise to the Sun. Beneficial flaming rays which filtered Their past spaceship port-hole have inspired to the trio a potential hit named Slowfire (opening like Sundays and then driven in powerpop-ish), followed by a Studio Audiance of similarly pleasent, and a great closure, covering Husker Du. This cd, together with Malory's debut (potentially the new Slowdive), might be an underground pop gem of this season. - See You at the beach, - who's going to bring an hi-fi to be ruined by sand?
