Differently from what most people would think, the Band called Rachel's did not take its name from Their pianist Rachel Grimes, seen She joined later what started as (ex-Rodan) Jason Noble's solo project. - Here and there in internet there are different theories (one taken its name from Noble's Toyota Corolla, - how poetic, isn't it?); anyway, no doubt ms Grimes is a talented pianist who would be worthy a Band name.
The french label Ruminance releases Her 'for piano solo' record, - an intimate and meditative collection of 14 tracks, previously featured in a cycle of 14 short films by Greg King (he too a member of the band Rachel's), Rotating Mirror, - something where Satié or more recently Dustin O'halloran, would probably recognize a certain sensitive affinity, - such these pieces are suggestive and melancholic, often also disarming and gauzy.
Birds whistle on She Was Here, Every Morning Birds, - it's Autumn, like on the cover art, - You're in The Corner Room, just opened a window, it's early morning, You can nearly spot a Far Light out there among bare trees into fog, and all sounds left are mute, lifeless: except done for a piano, it is like a cognitive dissonance on that Side View, between the Nature around You, besides those glasses, and the clear dramatic mildness of humanity living in Your heart.
This album grows in the grace of contemporary chamber music's Beauty, some of these tracks might tear You apart.
