"Did I ever tell you about the man who taught his asshole to talk? His whole abdomen would move up and down, you dig, farting out the words. It was unlike anything I ever heard. [..]"

Ubu is an amazing website, one more time thanks to M.C. who passed me this link years ago: it's like internet archive, but focusing on underground and alternative sound art, historical and contemporary.

And, at this turn, it features Frank Zappa live performing Burroughs' The Talking Asshole short story, from Naked Lunch novel, read during The Nova Convention, in 1978, album released in 1979, for Giorno Poetry Systems, "an American artist collective, record label, and non-profit organisation founded by poet and performance artist John Giorno with the direct aim to connect poetry and related art forms to a larger audience using innovative ideas, such as communication technology, audiovisual materials and techniques." [> wiki]

More, at Brainwashed, there's a tribute page, with more details and info, whose "In 1978 in New York there was the Nova Convention, a three-day tribute to William that crowned him patriarch of heroin and wisdom, and featured performances by Patti Smith, Frank Zappa and many others, including Laurie Anderson, who was making her debut public performance."

Ubu offers for free the download of the whole album tracklist of The Nova Convention, - and all others releases from the Giorno Poetry Systems / Dial-A-Poem Poets, listing a lot of those well-known Artists (i.e. Andy WarholJohn Cage, Sonic Youth, Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass, ..) that have changed the conventional path of Music, Poetry and other Arts, - something truly amazing, i told You!
