"We are a slowcore-shoegaze band", - Ka Mate Ka Ora write on their CD booklet notes.
And Thick as the summer stars is Their official debut release, - one year later their excellent s/t promotional CDr, which featured part of the current tracklist, - this time mixed and mastered by legend Mark Kramer (He discovered and produced Low, just to pick up one from his excellent and endless CV), and powered by their friend Samuel Katarro, guest on 5 titles.
Just in case You missed my former review and interview with these guys, They've been a pleasant surprise to me last year, - They have got an excellent taste in capturing slowness of sounds and feeding them with a melancholic growing pathos, - like if Low of I Could Live in Hope had wrote songs for Bardo Pond, although Shaving Anti-clockwise sound like by Mogwai, and All Around by Pink Floyd.
They own a slow solemn gait, a sort of restless march through a desert storm (Kid Song), where the Sun heat is Their Music, with the wind blasting away your face with the burning sand.
A sense of desperation and fate. Tracks as Bonnie, Draw a straight line and follow it, could turn to be their war horse to ride through the above mentioned journey, leading to Rain is coming faster, where guest Michelle Davis (speaker from italian NovaRadio / NoviSpazi) makes a spoken word similar to an epilogue.
A shallow chorus pedal on guitars, turning wild through distortion and big muff (so i guess), slow tempo drumming, long and deep bass lines, with Stefano Venturini sadly and seriously singing about their adventure, - a special formula for eight titles that will make You choose to not get out of bed next morning.

E Thick as the summer stars è l'atteso (qui almeno) album di debutto, un anno dopo l'eccellente CDr dallo stesso titolo, che vedeva parte della corrente tracklist, - questa volte mixata e masterizzata dalla leggenda Mark Kramer (ha scoperto e prodotto i Low, giusto per citarne una dal suo eccellente e infinito CV), e con ciligina la partecipazione di Samuel Katarro, ospite su ben 5 titoli.
In caso Vi foste persi la mia precedente recensione e relativa intervista con questi ragazzi, - beh, per il sottoscritto sono stati una bella sorpresa l'anno scorso, - Loro hanno un eccellente gusto nel catturare la lentezza dei suoni e nutrirli di un crescente pathos malinconico, - come se i sopra citati Low di I Could Live in Hope si fossero messi a scrivere le canzoni per i Bardo Pond, per quanto poi Shaving Anti-clockwise suoni come un ambient dei Mogwai, e All Around sappia di Pink Floyd.
I nostri sanno padroneggiare un solenne incedere in tutto ciò, una sorta di marcia senza posa attraverso un deserto in tempesta (Kid Song), dove il calore del Sole è la Loro Musica, con il vento che ti spara in faccia la sabbia bruciante.
Un senso di disperazione e fato.
