There's a grave / severe mood living in these four songs, by Still Leven, young band from Genova, debut release on Imao in the Mouth rec.
While the diy / lo.fi production somehow affects the impact of the first two tracks, as i think, The Dreamer and The Long Talk After Mom Died, differently, are like immune to that, drawing a growing feeling, emotional and suffering an inner agony. Two gems. It's like They sing and tell of Disgrace and Grief, keywords of a black grey shaded world, and the male/female vocals are like the wedding promises in a ceremony celebrated in the middle of the desert during a sand storm, where the couple is Nick Cave and Siouxie Sioux, or their dirty offspring coupling against rules.
A mixture of declaiming early 80s new-wave and indie bitterness, like the violent visions of The Dreamer, - truly hypnotic - or the evocative flute intro in Just a Face in the Crowd, - a strong chemical formula for sure unusual in Italy, - something, hopefully, deserving Your full attention.
