Carol of Wonders is Denise Galdo's label debut, - a young artist from southern italy, since several years accompanied by a trusted team of brillant musicians, sharing the same passion for a musical delicacy not far from being placed between The Sundays' pop sweetness, some of Emiliana Torrini's folk phrasing, and a unicorns multicolor party where the orchestra plays toys instruments, bunnies wear funny hats, and gentle guitar riffs and chimes make everybody dance.
Btw, it's Denise's babyish vocals to play with the innocence of Band's songwriting, turning this short EP in a little jewels box full of stardust, featuring two songs previously released on the self-produced Twee ep, here revisited with richer arrangements, plus two new.
Title track Carol Of Wonders is a sweet nursery rhyme, as Denise sings since the first strophe, - a fragile little song, carefree, potentially radio-friendly, - no doubt its refrain will be highly contagious.
Anyway it's Cuddly Cloudly Afternoon the real big number of this EP, - an enjoyable melancholic ballad, less dreamy, more mature loneliness, where Denise's petite vocals go naturally charming in a perfect marriage with the music, - and it's just a pity that the instumental final crescendo suddenly fades out.
It follows Let Them take some Care - engraced by cello and violin, flowing and loading the song's poetry, and then the last track Moonchild, which combines breezy instrumentation, nearly celestial, with Denise and bassist Romina Zitarosa's backing vocals, together weaving a fine lullaby, - kind of that goodnight song that elevates your body one feet from the bed, such the music is heavenly and dreaming, - something such so frail and lenitive.
Carol of Wonders ep absolutely needs to be the key for a long waited first full-lenght album, - hopefully soon, because i'm ready to bet Denise has got many other amazing melodies to share.

In ogni modo è la seconda traccia, Cuddly Cloudly Afternoon, il vero numero di questo EP: una godibilissima ballata malinconica, meno sognante, più matura nella sua solitudine, dove la petite voce di Denise vibra incantevole e naturale, in perfetto matrimonio con la musica, - dove l'unica lamentela può esser l'aver deciso di sfumare quella bellissima digressione strumentale finale in crescendo.
