Recorded in 2006, released only this year, this is what i call a psychic (not psychedelic) record: Felicia Atkinson is our intangible guide speaking french along this long déjà vu, - hypnotic and soothing, a perfect company for an astral trip.
About the real concept behind this album: Atkinson's [..] novel "in progress" Louiseville brought the subject text of this album (except The Only Thing To Come Now Is The Sea, free adaptation of a poem by Sylvia Plath), "a secret appointment in a ideal place, a fictive place. [..] The imaginary road trip of French people in the United States".
So, ms. Atkinson, with Olivier Cavaille plus Nikolu, - Ile-de-France France - writes a sound-novel joining the points between Rachel's, Fennesz and Patty Smith, - or as She tells in LouisEville, all those well-known Bands that made Louisville famous all over the world since 90s: 'dans Louisville, il y a LouisEville: David Grubbs, Bonnie Prince Billy, Slint, Rachel's, The For Carnation, .. Slint, .. Smog, ..'; Her whispered spoken-word introducing this town of Sound is surreal and mesmeric.
More, the special guest Sylvain Chauveau gently plays vocals on two tracks, a lyrical break in the above mentioned LouisEville and on the following folk ballad Johnny and June, sort of heart-breaking restore before a the disturbed ambient and field recordings of Forest (for Maria Kotalska), - somehow noisly Sonic Youthian.
The whole effect is something fascinating and often stunning, two feet over the ground, - worth 30 minutes of travelling together.

Registrato nel 2006, uscito solo quest'anno, - A Silent Effort In The Night è quello che definisco un disco psichico (non psichedelico): Felicia Atkinson è la nostra guida intangibile che parla francese lungo questo déjà vu,- ipnotica e suadente, una perfetta compagna per un viaggio astrale.
Riguardo invece il vero concept dietro l'album, si basa sul romanzo omonimo in fase di scrittura di Lei, che, ad eccezion fatta del titolo The Only Thing To Come Now Is The Sea, - un libero adattamento di una poesia di Sylvia Plath, - tratta di un appuntamento segreto in un luogo ideale, un luogo di finzione. Un immaginario viaggio su strada USA condotto dai francesi.
Allora ms. Atkinson, insieme ad Olivier Cavaille e Nikolu, - Ile-de-France France - scrivono questa novella sonora unendo i punti tra Rachel's, Fennesz e Patty Smith, - o meglio come racconta Lei in LouisEville, - tutti quei ben noti Gruppi che hanno reso famosa la Louisville americana sin dai 90: 'dans Louisville, il y a LouisEville: David Grubbs, Bonnie Prince Billy, Slint, Rachel's, The For Carnation, .. Slint, .. Smog, ..'; il di Lei spoken-word sussurrato di questa breve nota enciclopedica musicale rimane surreale e mesmerico.
In più, l'ospite speciale Sylvain Chauveau a toni gentile canta su due tracce, ovvero le pause liriche nella sopracitata LouisEville e poi la ballata folk di Johnny and June,- sorta di ristoro spezza cuore prima della seguente disturbata Forest (for Maria Kotalska), - una colte di registrazioni campo trattati, un ambient a tratti rumorosamente Sonic Youthiano.
Il disco scorre veloce, è meritevole dei suoi 30 minuti, - offre parentesi di fascinazione che porta ad alzarsi ad un paio di piedi da terra.
