29-Dec-2006 2:26 PM - Anatre Supreme + Yokotobigeri (4+3tx split cd, 34'16" - Be Here rec / Escape From Today 'o6) - Ricordo le mie prime komarecensioni, erano di due cassette ricevute nel '99: i Dint e gli Youthful della Be Here rec (poi prima intervista!).. oh gioventù.. bello scoprire che l'etichetta diy della bassa lodigiana esiste ancora.. - Lo split su cd, mixato dall'onnipresente Fabio Magistrali, tiene due Gruppi. - Gli Anatre Supreme, i primi, particolarmente aggressivi, sulla coda dello stoner strumentale, - robusto di una linea di basso prominente, batterie sapientemente adrenaliniche (ottime davvero), da rompere appunto una Costola, e chitarre tra macchie di psichedelie e tagli Black Sabbathiani. Gli Yokotobigeri - anche qui strumentali - suonano invece più estrosi (c'è tanto di schiacciapensieri siculo su una traccia), tra matematiche al limite del progressive, noise-core e un'alternanza di ironie e concreto pathos lancinante: insomma, un calderone di rude protorock pesante, con una serie di accortezze nel mix dei pezzi, lunghe cavalcate, spesso labirintiche. // Anatre Supreme + Yokotobigeri (4+3tx split cd, 34'16" - Be Here rec / Escape From Today 'o6) - I remember my first tape komareviews, they were about Dint and Youthful's early demo releases, Be Here rec's artists, from northern west italy.. oh my distressed youth.. btw, it's cool the label is still active and so diy. This new record, mixed by Fabio Magistrali, split between Anatre Supreme and Yokotobigeri, sees the first particularly aggressive, on the way of instrumental stoner, with prominent heavy bass lines, adrenalinic drumming (great and explosive indeed), such to break a Costola (rib), featuring two guitars swinging between pshychedelia and Black Sabbath-ish cuts. Yokotobigeri - here instrumental, - play something more extroverted (You can hear a typycal sicilyan instrument, a scacciapensieri, sort of mouth harp), between angular mathematics, along progressive threshold, noise core, - alternating irony and concrete cutting pathos: i mean, it's a mix of rude crude rock, with some particular attention in post-production, long rides, often labyrinthic.

Johnny Day (il cognome d'arte leggasi 'dai') à mon avis fa incontrare il melodramma napuletano con chitarre e batterie Creation rec (sentite O' Pantalaccio - potrei ascoltarmela allo sfinimento), o con i Radiohead (Exit for a Day la risposta a Exit Music?). - L'album breve di 5 tracce E Vai - di qualche anno fa - è un gioiellino di sceneggiata partenopea che bilancia pathos folkloristico e naturale propensione all'indie portata al limite dalle emozionanti liriche di Johnny (..t'aggia purtato lontano dagli occhi ndscreti di qesta città..), oramai ritiratosi - pare - a vita onesta nell'industria del pesce (altra legenda?). Me lo sogno su qualche tv privata a esibirsi live, con tonnellate di telefonate in diretta che lo osannano sinchè qlc tv + grande lo scopre, lo divora e lo declama definitivamente mito.. I've been so lucky to enjoy Annelies Monseré live show with Jessica Bailiff, early this month in Rome, and i had a couple of brief chats with Annelies too, - brilliant girl with a shiny smile, gentle soul, able to perform through Her Music a nocturnal manifesto of innocence and fragile beauty.. i couldn't but spending some more words about Her to know more..

komakino: hi! Your Music is to me like a sort of magic spell in cold autumn night.. haven't You ever thought to do any summer-like hit song, talking of surfing, beach boys and girls having fun..
Annelies: Not really.

komakino: ok, i was just kidding before. - it was just to hint to the fact that Your Music is a cradle of gentleness and beautiful sadness, evocative and mesmerising, - all virtues dear to a more intimate atmosphere. - Where do You think You usually take inspiration from? Do You think You write sad or happy songs?
Annelies: I thought so :-) I guess most of my songlyrics are inspired by human relationships. If my songs "tell stories", the stories probably never happened, but I guess the lyrics are still autobiographic. They are sometimes describing, sometimes (most of the time probably) sad, sometimes happier. I do not think my music is totally depressing, though. Maybe some songs are really "sad" (say "you were on my side" - I see that song as the saddest song I've written), I think a lot of my songs are pretty hopefull.

komakino: With three adjectives, could You brutally describe Your Music?
Annelies: sounds, songs, words

komakino: [yes, that was enough brutal] - Cello, guitar, melodica, glockenspiel, piano, whispered vocals, - all to produce sound textures such so delicate and rarefied, - and when You played Your show in Rome, (most) people were completly hipnotized, and i had the feeling that the audience had a sort of owned respect to the frailty of the performance, - like if everyone could break that 'non-silence' so easily, but just because of its innocence and beauty, they were blocked.. is it only my personal distorted point of view or do You feel the spell You have on the live audience?
Annelies: Not at all... When people are quiet, I always think they are just being "polite" or they are too bored to even talk :-). I also don't believe in spells. Maybe sometimes the audience is really into it, but I can't really judge. Sometimes I think people really disliked the show and then some people come up to me, and give really nice comments, other times I think people liked it, and after the show no one shows any interest whatsoever. It is hard to tell...

komakino: You 've been on tour with Jessica Bailiff last month in Europe, - i just wondered how You practised the songs seen that there is a whole ocean between You two..
Annelies: We know eachothers music very well. We have toured before, but then, we didn't play on eachothers sets. For this tour, we send eachother via e-mail which songs we would play and what the other might contribute to the songs. We rehearsed the songs together the first day Jessica and Jesse arrived in Belgium. From the beginning, singing/harmonizing with her felt very natural and comfortable.

komakino: I remember You performed a cover of Cranes' Shining Road.. pretty interesting acoustic version.. did You send a recording to the Cranes?
Annelies: Yes, I did. I actually cover two Cranes songs: "shining road" and "september". I'd like to put my version of "september" on my next album. So, I sent Alison Shaw demo versions of both songs and "Helder". She said she liked it, and she is fine w/ me using the song - still need permission from other people, though...

komakino: [how cool!!!] Helder is Your first official record released by Blue Sanct rec., how did You get in touch with Them?
Annelies: My boyfriend, Wim Lecluyse is his name, has a label called "Morc" and he was in touch w/ BlueSanct, as BlueSanct distributed a compilation he released. When Michael Anderson of BlueSanct came over to Europe to tour they met. The next tour he did was a tour w/ rivulets and Jessica Bailiff. Wim let them listen to songs I've just recorded (behind my back) and it seems all three of them really liked them. Michael asked me to release a record on BlueSanct almost right away.

komakino: What's on the cover art of Helder? Abstract self-portrait?
Annelies: It is a (pretty realistic) drawing of a shell.

komakino: [hmm?? really?] Are tracks featured in Helder home recordings? If so, do You think You might reproduce the same 'feeling' inside a recording studio?
Annelies: Everything I ever recorded was recorded at home. I have no idea how it feels like to work in a recording studio. I would like to record in recording studio at some point, maybe. But it seems a bit unnatural to me to record an album over such a short period. While recording, I still make adjustments to the songs. Though not in a big way, recording is part of the writing process. So, it seems hard for me to figure out exactly what I want, before the recording. If I would record in a studio, I'm sure it would have a slightly different feel to it. If I would work in a studio, I would work with people who's approach to sound I admire.

komakino: Helder is from 2005, - are You preparing new recordings? Usually the Music walks along with its Artist's own evolution.. can You see anything at the horizon? Any changement?
Annelies: I have been working on new recordings for a while now. Probably the biggest difference is that I have invited other people to play on these recordings. I am also using better microphones, which might also alter the sound a bit. There is also more guitar on the album. As far as the songs go, some songs have more of an actual songstructure, but most still have a very sketchy feel to it, I think. I think the lyrics are a little less abstract. I think of it as a warmer, but also darker album. But the maker is most of the time not the best judge...

komakino: Curiosity: I've been in Gent a couple of years ago.. between the things i have in my memory of this wonderful town, i remember that most of apartments have a flowerpot (empty or not) in front of each window, like if You cannot have a window without a vase.. at Your house, do You have a vase in front of each window? (oops, if i'm not wrong You moved in the Neatherlands.. what town?)
Annelies: I need to update the biography on my website, I lived in the Netherlands for 4 years, but since may I live in Gent.
That's funny! Actually, much more people in the Netherlands have flowerpots and so in front of their window. In fact, for the moment, I do have some flowerpots in front of the window, because we are not fully installed yet. Once the curtains are ready, they will have to move...

19-Dec-2006 2:51 PM - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo!!!! Cinema Station @ Rebibbia ha chiuso!! Angelo ha chiuso!! - E da maggio scorso! Ok, per Voi non significherà niente, ma per chi abitava o ha abitato (come me) in zona Rebibbia - Ponte Mammolo a Roma, è una notizia che porta sconforto nel cuore. L'unico motivo per cui rimpiango di aver cambiato casa (e zona) è che ho dovuto rinunciare ad andare affittare vhs e dvd da Cinema Station, antro di pochi metri quadri tappezzato di locandine dove dietro un bancone si poteva trovare Angelo a rollarsi una siga e a sciorinare volentieri spiegazioni plausibili su Muholland Drive, murato quasi vivo tra pile di film.. provate ad andare da blockbuster e chiedere i primi film di Gregg Araki o se è uscito quel film indipendente koreano con i sottotitoli in finlandese, o se hanno una copia del Tesis di Alejandro Amenábar.. Vi risparmio la camminata: Vi guarderanno a punto interrogativo. Angelo invece aveva tutto, pure la videok7 allegata al numero di Panorama del 97, tutto in affitto a modica cifra di 3 euro, e se sforavi di qlc giorno, no problema! Un grande. L'antro Cinema Station era un vero melting-pot di italiani, rebibbiani, koreani, zingari, cinesi, tossici, ultras, e Angelo li consigliava uguale, film per bambini inclusi. Certo, se poi andavi ad affittare qlc cagata tipo Il Quinto Elemento sgranava gli occhi e Ti chiedeva 'ma perchè?' e poi dovevi pagare penitenza con cinque Takeshi Kitano e due film indipendenti danesi.. Insomma, ora Rebibbia è davvero persa del tutto tra centri di alleanza nazionale, ultras romanisti, rom e discount.. senza quell'ultimo baluardo di 'onniscenza cinematografica' quindi Cultura, la coattitudine e perdizione della periferia la farà da padrone, temo. - Spero solo che la vineria che fa angolo su v. casal de' pazzi non chiuda anch'essa.. Ok, Angelo non è morto (mi gratto, nobless oblige), spero anzi abbia trovato una sistemazione migliore (magari vicino casa mia!), e comunque sono mesi che non passo a rebibbia.. cmq mi piange il cuore a saperlo.. thanks x i film e le chiacchierate.. good luck.

komakino: Wow, una one-woman band.. giusto? in genere si dice one-man band ma non credo Ti si addica, .. come mai non fai Musica stile san remo? Non rischi di rovinare la media delle ragazze che se suonano fanno molto pianobar, - specie considerando che usi Nome & Cognome invece che.. 'un nome da gruppo'..? Oppure sono io che pecco in statistica?
Beatrice Antolini: Insomma one-woman band mica tanto, è vero che registro tutti gli strumenti da sola ma poi dal vivo siamo in cinque e bisognerebbe essere in dieci per rendere l’atmosfera dell’album! Uso il mio nome e cognome per rendere tutto il meno complicato possibile dato che i pezzi sono miei dalla a alla z.

komakino: Di dove sei? Ci sono radio, locali, o quant altro per uscire da 'la musica che passa il convento' da quelle parti dove vivi?
Beatrice Antolini: Io sono di Macerata, abito a Bologna da sei anni e studio a Ferrara quindi non sono di nessun posto e non sento le radio, locali qui a Bologna ce ne sono tanti, ogni tanto vado a qualche concerto ma non esco moltissimo.Comunque anche in Italia per quanto se ne dica, credo che ci sia le possibilità di ascoltare e seguire musica diversa da quella che “passa il convento”.

komakino: facendo ricerche in internet, anzi, per fare il moderno e uccidere la lingua italiana, 'googlizzando' il Tuo Nome et Cognome è uscito fuori che hai alle spalle un'esperienza jazz.. un duo, mi pare di capire.. - esperienza estemporanea o hai contemporaneamente a questo altri progetti musicali?
Beatrice Antolini: In passato ho avuto moltissime altre esperienze musicali, dal punk al dark all’industrial all’elettronica al jazz ma da quando ho iniziato a lavorare a Big-saloon non ho piu’ avuto nessuna collaborazione con altri gruppi/generi perché sono troppo legata al mio progetto (e perché riesco a lavorare solo da sola).

komakino: il disco Big Saloon com'è nato? E' una sorta di collezione di pezzi che hai tenuto nel cassetto negli anni o è stato un exploit improvviso? C'è qualche concept creativo dietro?, alla fine sono ben 13 pezzi..
Beatrice Antolini: Diciamo che è stato una via di mezzo.
Big Saloon è il riassunto delle mie esperienze musicali e personali. E’ una specie di casa dove dentro abitano tutti i personaggi che forse ho incontrato o che forse ho solo immaginato. E’ nato il giorno in cui mi sono resa conto che anche senza tutti i mezzi che mi sarebbero serviti (che anelavo da anni) sarei riuscita a registrare qualcosa di buono, e che avrei potuto sostituire quello che non avevo con quello che avevo (è per questo che ho suonato accendini penne e matite e sgabello).
La maggior parte dei pezzi sono nati tra il 2003 e il 2004 in solitudine divertendomi. Un pezzo (Moved from a Town) è del 1999 e viveva nel mio cassetto insieme a tanti altri pezzi che vorrebbero uscire da lì.

komakino: Marco Fasolo dei Jennifer Gentle figura nelle note di copertina, e ad un primo ascolto l'influenza di Quei di Valende [leggi passata komarecensio] si faceva sentire chiara, poi personalmente mi sono accorto che + che altro avete in comune la follia pop psichedelica più che le partiture..
Beatrice Antolini: Strano dato che Big Saloon e Valende sono stati concepiti nello stesso periodo ma io non conoscevo Marco e lui non conosceva me.
Ho sentito Valende dopo aver finito di registrare il grosso di Big Saloon e mi è molto piaciuto ma non credo assomigli alla mia musica, veniamo da due scuole diversissime, io vengo dalla classica lui viene dal rock, poi siamo folli entrambi, è vero.

komakino: Riascolti spesso Big Saloon quando sei sola?
Beatrice Antolini: Si, spesso

komakino: Ma soprattutto, che vuol dire 'Riule Ule'? [la traccia #6 del disco, ndk]
Beatrice Antolini: Vuol dire ri ule ule il personaggio del pezzo (nella mia mente è una specie di cane pazzo), mi piace molto inventare nomi e parole.

komakino: La doppia produzione Mad Cap Collective e Silly Boy Ent. [etichetta dei Jennifer Gentle, ndk] mi fa pensare quasi ad un collettivo di amici con un gran gusto della musica in comune.. come ci sei capitata in mezzo?
Beatrice Antolini: Ho conosciuto i ragazzi della Silly Boy a Bologna ad un concerto dei Jennifer Gentle, gruppo che io purtroppo non conoscevo ma che ho subito apprezzato molto, gli ho fatto sentire dei miei pezzi, loro mi hanno spronato ad andare avanti con la produzione dando peso a quello che facevo, così ho continuato a registrare gli strumenti che mancavano come la batteria e le percussioni fino ad avere Big Saloon praticamente finito, a quel punto mancava solo un’etichetta che si occupasse della stampa del disco e della promozione.
Sapevo che Federico [Federici, ndk] della Madcap Collective aveva sentito un mio demo e che gli era piaciuto, così ho pensato subito a lui e ho fatto bene perché i ragazzi della madcap sono molto bravi e mi hanno accolto nella loro famiglia (sembriamo dei mafiosi) a braccia aperte.

komakino: Come sono andati i primi concerti col gruppo? Con quale pezzo avete aperto la serata?
Beatrice Antolini: I primi concerti sono andati bene direi! Apriamo sempre con Monster Munch perché è un pezzo energico, un po’ come dire “eccoci qua abbiamo iniziato!”

komakino: C'è in progetto un tour promozionale in italia? Qualche video? Mi immagino qlcs tra Betty Boop e Yellow Submarine..
Beatrice Antolini: Per adesso non c’è un vero e proprio tour in vista, ma spero che presto si organizzerà qualcosa di impegnativo magari anche all’estero. Ho una specie di video fatto da me con soggetto Frankenstein che spero di montare per Monste Munch! Sarà divertente!

komakino: Nel caso ti si desse la possibilità di scegliere un Gruppo/Artista con cui fare uno split, per chi opteresti?
Beatrice Antolini: Opterei per Freddie Mercury se fosse ancora vivo.

komakino: Qual è l'ultimo disco metal che hai comprato? - Scherzo. Myspace può aiutare un'Artista indie come Te?
Beatrice Antolini: L’ultimo disco metal che ho comprato credo che sia stato gli Obituary “the end complete” nel lontano 1995 ma non mi piaceva neanche all’epoca.
Credo che My space personale sia inutile, mentre myspace music può essere un modo per far girare la tua musica quindi mi piace anche se non credo nei myspacemiracoli.

komakino: I vicini si sono mai lamentati della Musica che fai? Ti chiedono mai 'maddai, hai un gruppo? che musica fai?'
Beatrice Antolini: Di solito per tenermeli buoni alterno i pezzi di Big Saloon a Mozart che è curativo e anti-stress.
Devono essere dei santi cmq.

komakino: infine: il disco ha qlc distribuzione particolare o lo si può acquistare solo ai concerti e presso le etichette?
Beatrice Antolini: Per adesso il disco puo’ essere acquistato dal sito della madcap collective (www.maledetto.it) o ai concerti, o da me che vivo a Bologna, per la distribuzione incrociamo le dita. (anche tu incrocia incrocia).

Btw, somewhat disturbing yet, alienating, as well i think that after spending more than $6,000 for a doll You should feel like forced to fall in love with it.. - Anyway, Dorfman's portfolio is pretty rich and interesting, check it out.

18-Dec-2006 5:31 PM - Dilatazione - Too Emotional For Maths (8tx cd, 37'o7" - Slow Motion Pinguino rec 'o6) - I Dilatazione, al debutto ufficiale su etichetta, seppur insieme dal '99, da Firenze, passano il varco del post-rock che guida al risvolto cinematografico più descrittivo del genere, - si ritrovano in una spirale di serpentine strumentali e rallentamenti melliflui che calibrano un continuo crescendo di gentilezze, aiutati da trombe, sax baritono, virbrafono oltre ai normali attrezzi di genere quali chitarre ricchi di riff, basso matematico, e ottime percussioni (gran lavoro di bacchette cavalcanti). A cacciare via l'ombra del 'gruppo strumentale' c'è special guest Amaury Cambuzat, che in cambio di voce, harmonium, ebow su chitarra, e piano, si è preso l'anima del batterista Alessio Gioffredi per farlo suonare con i Suoi Ulan Bator. La voce di Cambuzat canta in francese, e dona quel surplus di eleganza e narrativa alle composizioni, da Cendre In e Cendre Out (memorie e voluttuà che mi ricordano certi Twig Infection (rip!)), per quanto un gioiellino quale Tutto si dimentica viva di luminosità propria pur se orfano del cantato, - certo che però quel taglio brusco sul finale della traccia porta a domandarsi dall'intimo 'maccheccazz.. mi si è rotto il cd?' - Invece no, - peccato, perchè di pathos ne tira molto. - Trovo che il disco rischi di perdersi in troppo lirismo evocativo essendo tanto lontano dal radio-friendly e dai canoni chorus-verse-chorus, ma essendo una scelta di stile (leggo definirsi cinephile rock), direi che il cinema non è lontano. To dismiss the shadow of instumental bands, Amaury Cambuzat is special guest, that in return of vocals, harmonium, ebow on guitar and piano, takes back drummer Alessio Gioffredi's soul to introduce Him into Ulan Bator's latest line-up. Cambuzat's voice sings in french, and gives that plus of elegance and narrative take to the song-writing, from Cendre In e Cendre Out (these songs make me remember of italian gems Twig Infection (rip!)), even if a opus as Tutto si dimentica is brighten of a own light, even if voice-less, - anyway, that rude cut on the end of the track really lets You wonder 'whatthefuck... my cd has got something wrong..' - while it's planned.. what a pity, it was full of pathos.. Last, - the problem i see with the whole album is the excessive evocative lyrism, - so far from being radio-friendly and from the chorus-verse-chorus formula, - but being a choice of style (i read Dilatazione talk of cinephile rock), i'd say They reached the point, and the cinema is not so far.

[traduzione in ita qui] Black Forest / Black Sea and Fursaxa had to perform live too, but due to some technical problems with the van's engine, They couldn't be present for the show last night. - because of that, i saw several snob people who preferred to leave off rather than paying four miserable euros to enjoy the rest of the night with Madame P and Nora Keyes. Personally i was new to both the Girls, even if knew previous Madame P's experience as Allun. About Nora, i only read some quirky reviews on the net, but - never such so quirky as Her-self. Madame P's recalled to my memory LA haunting alchemist Dark Muse, - because of the use of multiple delay effect pedals, hand guided, able to build a solid wall of whispers, beats, vocal carpets, - a sound Artist more than a singer, even if on a couple of last tracks performed She turned Her loops on a experimental jazz plan. Madame P (Patrizia Oliva) has got a good voice. - When it's Nora time, i saw Her wearing a particular hat, that is, a long brown corn, or maybe something closer to a wood branch, half dressed as old vaudeville Artist. - She sits and plays a toy keyboard, set as organ, - the venue is pretty gloom, and there's just one small light clearing Her face, that suddenly turns into a evil grimace and She starts singing a bizzarre song with witch voice.. oh gods! i couldn't resist but laughing, especially when a (stupid!) Dear Friend Of Mine told me 'it's like Bracardi!' - an italian deficient (con rispetto parlando..) and great pianist.. Anyway, as i thought i understood what kind of show it was going to be, i discovered i was totally wrong as Nora took an acoustic guitar and started singing Sunny Shaft: i've been totally enraptured by Her grace, - Her voice is a total call to an higher plan.. She can sings of Fancy Space People deciding that the human race is a parasite, or of the creator of the first rocket engine who received a mere thousand dollars for the invention, - You'll fall in love anyway. - It's different, - or to be more correct, diverse Music, i don't know if She takes seriously each thing She does in Her songs (You can watch/hear in one of videos i filmed when She wants the audience to scream with Her when She cites Jesus or the Devil in Her lyrics), - but that doesn't change She's totally funny, over the Grace, and so fucking talented. The people stood all around Her sitted and hypnotized, - sometimes laughing like hell. - I bought a cdr (i guess it's entitled Unpolished Excerpts), - the sound quality is pretty low, - like if it has recorded on a 4tracks unit, and that's a pity, because Her voice and guitar skills deserve more quality. If She reaches Your town, don't miss Her. She sounds like Coco Rosie's rejected far cousin, kidnapped by the aliens. I hope this Girl will never stop touring and making Music, - i can't image Her behind a desk working 8hrs a day..

14-Dec-2006 2:43 PM - Rollerball - Rollerball (10tx cd, 10'42" - Wallace rec 'o6) - Portland Rollerball are not newbies, it's years They've been releasing records from the hidden underground, - i guess it's more a family than a Band. I remember when some years ago i saw Them performing live in Rome, and the guy who sung made continuosly strange things with his tongue on the microphone.. btw.. pretty funny show. - The new self-titled album is out on italian Wallace rec, always focusing on creative Music, - and this is one more good number, seen that all 10 tracks are a special melt of free jazz drumming and sax partitures, quiet foggy electronics, and sweet boy/girl vocals, from the psychedelic opening quiet march of Never Happy to the gloomy hybrid Doc Nubbies until the long Water the Bark, a swim into the modern chaos of free ambient Music. Lullabies, or better, serenades, melancholic love-songs like the cinematographic The Sky in LA, mixing gipsy guitars with squeeze box - in a release strong of personality and cerebral charm. [see below for mp3] // Rollerball - Rollerball (10tx cd, 10'42" - Wallace rec 'o6) - I Rollerball di Portland non sono esattamente dei novizi, sono anni invece che pubblicano dischi dal buio underground, - penso siano + una famiglia che una Band alla fine. Mi ricordo quando qlc anno fa li ho visti dal vivo a Roma, e sul palco il ragazzo che canta faceva strane cose con la lingua al miscrofono.. show piuttosto interessante cmq. - Il nuovo album, self-titled, è pubblicato dalla nostrana Wallace rec, sempre attenta alla Musica creativa, - e si può dire che nemmeno questa volta sbaglia il tiro, - visto che le 10 tracce qui contenute sono uno speciale incontro di partiura free-jazz tra percussioni e sax, elettroniche nebbiose, e dolci parti vocali boy/girl, - a cominciare dalla psichelica apertura della sommessa marcia di Nerve Happy all'oscuro ibrido Doc Nubbies, - sino alla lunga Water the Bark, una nuotata nel moderno caos dell'ambient più free. Cantilene, anzi, serenate, malinconiche love-songs come la cinematografica The Sky in LA, che calibra chitarra gitana e fisarmonica, - tutto in disco dalla forte personalità e charm intellettuale.

yes, i'm back, and touring with Sea Dweller and The Victorian English Gentlemen's Club has been totally funny, both the Music and People.. From Cardiff, Wales, - Adam, Emma, Louise, togheter with Dan - french friend of Theirs - ultra skilled sound engineer ('Eleonora, do you want a negroni?'), - are cool people to tour with, and - overall, - a great Music experience to live in a venue, even if in Milan @ transilvania club, there were like only 40 shadows. Their Music sounds as a meeting point of Pixies, Wire, The Fall, B52's, with a strong new-wave bass line and drumming as rythm section, angular art-rock guitars and a constant catchy vocal exchange. - I remember i heard Emma answering to a guy 'i'm not the singer!' as he was trying to do some free flattery - btw that doesn't change each of Them perfectly matches with the other voices in every song. I can't forget on stage Louise wearing a white dress with a black cross made of scotch-tape (in alternative with reversed colours), fixing the void with Her blue eyes, in front of the audience (some guys got a stroke..), or Emma getting closed to the stage sounding a bell, a HEAVY bell (i wonder how They justified the thing at the airport) and Adam throwing on the floor His fender jaguar at the end of the first show. I particularly loved the hit-single Amateur Man, as well Cannon Ball (my gaffe, when i read the song name on the tracks list i asked Louise if it was Breeders' one) - how couldn't You love the chorus and the quirky synth effect on the bass? - Other highlights on Ban the Gin, Stupid as Wood (absolutely drifting), Backwards, - it was a pity They didn't have any cd to sell after the shows. - Yes, the last picture i took with Adam having tea with a little finger up is ultra cool. - Anyway, as it concerns my personal adventure with Sea Dweller has been funny and involving, too. - I hope will be in a studio soon to record some of the tracks, seen that me and drummer Carlos are not into the tracks featured at myspace. - I won't write anything else about Sea Dweller, i don't like too much self-promotion here at komakino, and - no, my face is not on any of the photos above. - Anyway, i hope to post more pictures soon.

Verso le 18 mi arriva una telefonata: è Annelies Monseré, mi dice che sono davanti al traffic ma che oltre Loro lì non c'è ancora nessuno. La sua voce è concitata, particolarmente bassa, fatico a capirla.. cazzo il mio inglese da telefono sucks.. Ok in dieci minuti sono lì. Forse 20. - In qualche modo ci ho messo lo zampino nell'organizzare questa data, - aiutato da Cristiano (aka Folded) ho messo finalmente in contatto le parti Boring Machine e Zero Magazine, dopo che una serie di locali capitolini e organizzatori vari mi hanno dato tranquillamente buca, con le risposte più assurde (una su tutte 'non siamo organizzati per i live', - se Vi interessa sapere chi.. scrivetemi). Insomma, mi sono sbattuto volentieri, perchè non potevo perdermi la Bailiff dal vivo per la promozione di Feels Like Home [leggi komarecensio], assolutamente. Quando arrivo il traffic invece ha appena aperto, ma Jessica, Annelies e Jesse restano fuori, a congelare.. Li saluto, sono molto tranquilli, oltre che affamati, gli chiedo com'è andata la data precedente, e abbozzano un mezzo sorriso e qualche parola su poteva andare meglio. Dopo un pò il ricco buffet offre patatine e mandarini, vedo Jessica e Annelies interrogarsi sul fatto se quella sarà la loro unica cena.. per fortuna poi no, c'era dell'altro. Poi il sound-check: il fonico del traffic impazziva cercando di tirar fuori i volumi di Jessica, Annelies e Jesse, - volumi troppo bassi diceva, temeva di far fischiare tutto, tra violoncello, chitarre, basso e le due voci, tanto sottili e sospirate come sono. Due heavenly creatures. Io temevo invece che afeçionados a parte, durante il concerto ci sarebbe stata abbastanza inciviltà e disinteresse del resto del pubblico da non riuscire a sentire niente.. Invece specie durante il set di Annelies [leggi komarecensio per il Suo Helder] ci sono stati episodi di rispetto tale che ad un certo punto ho sentito addirittura il rumore dello sciacquone del wc accanto la sala concerti.. poi certo, gli idioti non sono mancati, da quello ubriaco che urlava barcollando e mano alla tempia 'sta musica è proprio un flash' a quelli che facevano tranquillamente salotto per i cazzi propri, sino ad una che per far promozione al suo gruppo dimmerd con uno dei ragazzi che organizzava la serata, per mollargli il cdr promo che casualmente aveva con sè non stava zitta un secondo. E quando qualcuno zittiva ferocemente uno di questi, si poteva vedere Annelies sorridere grata e imbarazzata. - Al traffic sulla porta che fa ingresso alla sala concerti c'è appeso un foglio con avviso dantesco, dice 'i concerti cominciano alle 23', quindi con quarto d'ora accademico, approssimato per eccesso, significa alle 23.30. Sì, a roma si rischia questo. Quindi alle 23.30 apriamo la serata, la notte anzi, io e Cristiano Carosi, per il suo progetto solista Folded. Non ne scriverò al riguardo.. per quanto mi concerne, mi piace abbastanza dal suonarci dentro.. ergo... cmq, su nerdsattack, sono state spese buone parole (tnx). - Il set di Annelies vedeva come guest Jessica al violoncello, e viceversa al turno di Lei. Le due voci molto si avvicinano nel tono per quanto Annelies pratichi uno stile di ipsnosi solipsista con suoni minimali, e Jessica invece si libri + nel lirismo da non violenza post-shoegaze. Insieme cantano la prima canzone a cappella, This Quiet Room, - breve e mesmerica com'è, il pubblico si trova impreparato ad applaudire. Annelies è una creatura celeste, vestita castigata, volto pallido, sorriso gentile, - suona chitarra, piano, cello. I suoi pezzi sono un incanto di requiem (Cold Night su tutti), anche quando fa una cover acustica di Shining Road, dei Cranes, che quasi suona come la Loro Tangled Up: più tardi ci fomenteremo a vicenda di quanto ci piacciano a entrambi i Cranes. - La performance di Jessica vede Lei molto + comunicativa, fa anche piccole intro ai pezzi che andrà a suonare, - dice ad. es. ' quando sei giovane e non hai amici, è bene che tu abbia qlc canzone felice perchè le canzoni sono i tuoi unici amici', quindi suona una cover di Fligh High di Bridget Saint John. Apre con With You, poi in scaletta la magnifica Disappear, Lakeside Blus, We were Once, What's Inside Your Mind, - un susseguirsi di raffinatezza e vortici noise in background, sapientemente calibrati dalla psichedelia di Jesse, che dal suo angolino crea una serie di fughe lisergiche a fare da tappeto al falso folk di Jessica. - Intanto si sono fatte le 2 e un quarto a.m, - personalmente mi sento uno zombie, diversa gente se n'è dovuta andare durante l'ultimo quarto d'ora, chiaramente non c'è stata adrenalina nell'aria, ma pura morfina onirica.. ma è troppo tardi.. finito il concerto, i cd vanno via come il pane, e vedo i tre firmare diversi autografi... poi tutti a correre a casa a dormire.. meno male ^_^.
